Accessified (Magazine)
As a designer, I had the privilege of creating a magazine called Accessified, which focuses on the 17 UN sustainability goals and universal design for learning. Through this project, I aimed to create a visually appealing and informative magazine that can educate and inspire people to contribute to making the world a better place.
Goal
The primary goal of the magazine was to inform readers about the 17 UN sustainability goals and how we can all work towards achieving them. The secondary goal was to introduce the concept of universal design for learning and its significance in creating inclusive and equitable learning environments.
Research
To create a comprehensive and accurate magazine, extensive research was conducted using various resources. The primary source was the United Nations website, where I found detailed information on the 17 goals, their targets, and indicators. Additionally, I read research papers and articles on universal design for learning from reputable sources such as the The UDL Guidelines by CAST.
Design Rationale
This magazine was inspired to take on a more modern look and feel. It uses a crisp sans-serif font (Objektiv Mk) to ensure it is easy to read. It was also used due to the fact that it comes in various amounts of weights.
The accent font (Macula) found in the title and headings was used as it stands out from typical fonts and adds to the modern design of the magazine.
An 8 column grid was used for the document, however most pages adhere to a 2 column grid so large amounts of text could be included.
The colours used throughout the document come from the 17 UN sustainability goals to ensure there was a connection to these goals. The accent colour of red seen throughout the document was used to highlight the colour of the feature of this issue of the magazine.
The use of squares with squared corners was used to add to the modern design of the magazine and to highlight the accent colours for each of the 17 UN sustainability goals.
Universal Design for Learning
To educate readers about the importance of universal design for learning, I included an article that explains the concept, its benefits, and how it can be implemented in different learning environments. The article also includes practical tips for educators to incorporate universal design for learning principles in their classrooms.
Conclusion
Through Accessified, I hope to inspire readers to take action toward achieving the 17 UN sustainability goals and to embrace the principles of universal design for learning in their lives. By working together, we can create a more sustainable, equitable, and inclusive world for everyone.
